David Cassidy’s DUI Hearing to Take Place Today

Former teen idol David Cassidy is scheduled for a status hearing stemming from his November DUI arrest.

The hearing begins today and should be underway right now.

The 60-year-old “Partridge Family” star was arrested Nov. 3 after a Florida Highway Patrol trooper spotted his car weaving on Florida’s Turnpike near Fort Pierce.

According to the FHP, Cassidy said he had a glass of wine and later took a hydrocodone pill. Troopers found a half-empty bottle of bourbon in the back seat of the white Mercedes.

The FHP report states that Cassidy failed a field sobriety test (as shown in the above video), and breath tests at the St. Lucie County jail showed his blood-alcohol content at 0.139 and 0.141, above Florida’s legal limit of 0.08.

Cassidy lives in Fort Lauderdale.

Updates as they become available.

If you have been charged with DUI, as Mr. Cassidy has, you’ll want to have an attorney experienced in dealing with these matters. Contact us today for a free legal consultation.

DUI Prevention Video

Here are excerpts from a documentary produced by WCOT in Tallahassee, FL.

My take: If the city and law officials are really concerned about public safety and alcohol related car accidents then why does the public transportation shut down before the bars close on weekends in major cities? The system in place seems to have as much or more emphasis on generating money for the city and state as it does for keeping the roads safe.

DUI Suspect Cuts His Own Throat (Video)

Police frequently make unjustified DUI arrests and it’s just silly to present to a deputy that you’ve been drinking and driving. Without sufficient evidence of a driver being intoxicated a charge can always be beaten with the right approach. From a purely legal standpoint you should never do what this man did unless, of course, you want to be arrested for driving under the influence.

Clearly the officer had no reason to arrest him until he admitted his own guilt. It’s not that it would be impossible for him to avoid being convicted, but he definitely made it a much more difficult task.

DUI Suspect Flees Scene, Hits Cop

Other then DUI the driver is charged with the second degree felony of leaving the scene of an accident while under the influence of alcohol. Maximum penalties for this case in Florida would include 5 years in jail and a $5,000 fine. However, with the help of qualified legal counsel these penalties do no not have to be the driver’s fate. If there is no avoiding a conviction altogether for the suspect an average plea agreement would certainly not include jail time.
