Famous Death Caylee Anthony: What Happened and Where We are Today

Some of you may know about the case of Caylee Anthony or her mother Casey Anthony. To give you some background information on the case this is the story thus far.

It started in 2008 when there was a report of a missing two year old girl, Caylee Anthony. Her skeletal remains were found in a wooded area near her home on December 2008. The mother, Casey Anthony, was tried for the first degree murder of Caylee but acquitted. However she was charged with misdemeanor counts of providing false information to the police officers.

The trial for this case lasted six weeks from May to July 2011. Casey Anthony fabricated various stories and said she had not seen her baby for 31 days and that her car smelled like a dead had been in it. During the trial she was being charged with first degree murder since at that time the child was still missing. Then on December 11th they found the child’s body wrapped up in a blanket in a trash bag in a wooded area near the family home. The investigated reports and trial testimony went back and forth between duct tape being found near the front of the skull and on the mouth of the skull. The medical examiner mentioned duct tape as one reason she ruled the death a homicide, but officially listed it as “death by undetermined means”.

As the trial progressed the defense team countered that the child had drowned accidentally in the family’s swimming pool on June 16 2008 and that Casey lied about this and other issues because of a dysfunctional upbringing.  The defense did not present evidence as to how Caylee died nor evidence that Casey was sexually abused as a child but challenged every piece of evidence the prosecution presented. They called it “fantasy forensics” and Casey did not testify during the trial. This case presented as the biggest social media outrage of the century. The public felt the jury didn’t understand the statement of probable cause. However, the baby sitter is now suing Casey Anthony for reputation damages.

The next major court date is set for December 18th and the actual trial is set for Jan. 2nd. More updates as we go along. This is one case that has the public eye on as many feel unjustified.
